I could never travel solo, I am afraid!

Top 5 Tips for new solo travelers
1. Make the decision to travel solo
Don’t let other people make you worried about traveling solo. Others’ insecurities are not yours; you need to know your priorities and maintain the plan to meet your priority. If your priority is to travel and experience new things and don’t have someone to do that with, solo travel can become your priority.
2. Instead of “What is the worst that can happen?”, ask yourself, “what is the best that can happen?”
Look at it as an adventure and project positivity when you travel solo. Positive people do not get victimized with complete upheaval. Controlling your emotions helps control your environment. You attract calm, positive people. Negativity and negative thoughts bring chaos.
3. Keep an open mind
I admit to being a control freak, ask my children! Understanding that I can only control that which is within my control has turned me into an open-minded control freak. Being open-minded has brought things into my life that I never expected. When you are open-minded you can learn to live a different version of your life (and it may be better than you expected)
4. Take solo travel slow until you don’t need to anymore
If you want to (or need) to travel solo, try taking a low-risk trip solo. I did a short cruise solo as my first trip because a cruise ship is a somewhat controlled environment. There are planned activities I could participate in or not (my choice), and if I wanted to talk with others there was a steady supply. Thinking that I would be alone was initially overwhelming, but it didn’t take long for me to recognize how cruising solo fit my style. I got to make decisions for myself (control freak) and didn’t have to check in with anyone else. If I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing (including conversations with others I didn’t click with), I could leave. I could take a nap, sit by the pool for hours or minutes…it was very freeing!
5. Use a professional travel consultant if making travel arrangements is an overwhelming prospect. Travel consultants do not charge extra, might find great deals, and can break down the details and provide you with all the information needed so you don’t have to.
After you have some trips under your belt a Travel Consultant can still help you at no additional cost and provide ideas for new trips. Traveling solo may feel overwhelming, but take it from a seasoned solo traveler, it is a great way to experience life and learn about yourself and the world at the same time.
